 In the format of a round table discussion, the book entitled ‘Texts and Contexts from the History of Feminism and Women’s Rights’ (2024) is launched. The volume is a vast collection of translated sources on women’s rights from the Central-Eastern European region focusing on the state socialist period, with introductions to the specific context of each text. The book launch features the editors and some contributors of the volume who are experts of women’s history in the region, specifically the former Yugoslavia, Romania, Poland, and Hungary: Zsófia Lóránd, Dóra Fedeles-Czeferner, Adela Hîncu, Angéla Kóczé, Jovana Mihajlović Trbovc, and Katarzyna Stańczak-Wiślicz.

We discuss the different feminist organisations that have started off in the region in the 20th century, their relationship with each other and with the socialist and other political movements. How did feminist authors of the time frame questions of abortion and sexuality? What aims did they have about paid work and motherhood? What did they think about Western feminism, and what kind of regional connections did they have?
